The Supremacy of Jesus Christ (Part 4)

Jesus is superior to all others in authority, power or status.

Preeminence: Jesus is first in everything.

Information, Transformation, Application and Salvation…

1I, Paul, have been sent on special assignment by Christ as part of God’s master plan. Colossians 1:1a (MSG)

Soul Tattoo: Jesus is Lord of my life.

6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT)

Soul Tattoo: Jesus Christ is enough.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)

Soul Tattoo: Jesus Christ is my identity.

9Don’t lie to one another. You’re done with that old life. It’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you’ve stripped off and put in the fire. 10Now you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. Colossians 3:9-10 (MSG)

17 And say to Archippus, “Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you.” Colossians 4:17 (NLT)

Soul Tattoo: Jesus Christ wants us to do our very best.

1.) Working like I’m working for Jesus.

1Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. Colossians 4:1 (ESV)

  • Be just to those who work for you.
  • Be fair to those who work for you.
  • Overseers are accountable to their Master in heaven.

2.) Prayer, wisdom and how I talk matters.

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:2-6 (ESV)

  • Prayer is never a waste.
  • Pray and ask for clarity in presenting the Good News.
  • Wisdom is a key in leading lost people to Jesus.
  • Redeem the lost time.
  • Grace is important when we are telling others about Jesus.
  • “Seasoned with salt”, means that what we say should be salty enough to encourage more dialogue.

3.) Goodbyes are always hard.

Tychicus will tell you all about my activities. He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts, and with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will tell you of everything that has taken place here. 10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions—if he comes to you, welcome him), 11 and Jesus who is called Justus. These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him witness that he has worked hard for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis. 14 Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas. 15 Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. 16 And when this letter has been read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea. 17 And say to Archippus, “See that you fulfill the ministry that you have received in the Lord.” 18 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. Colossians 4:7-18 (ESV)

  • Reestablish what has been established.
  • Encourage people with passion
  • Don’t let the enemy steal what the Lord has given you.

“Christ alone is the source of our spiritual life, He is the Head of the body of believers. Jesus Christ is Lord of both the physical and spiritual worlds. The path to deeper spiritual life is not through religious duties, special knowledge, or secrets; it is only through a clear connection with the Lord Jesus Christ.” NIV Life Application Bible Commentary

  • Grace be with you.
