THE HOLY BIBLE

Every Word of God…

  • Luke 4:4 (NKJV) But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”
  • Deuteronomy 8:3 (ESV) And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

The Holy Bible is God’s own story.

  • Believe the Bible.
    • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
  • Invest quality time with the Word of God.
    • Colossians 3:16 (ESV) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…
  • Be a better reader of the Bible.
    • Matthew 7:24 (NIV) “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
    • John 5:39 (NIV) “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me…”
  • Look up what you don’t understand.
    • Psalm 119:105 (ESV) Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
    • Acts 17:11-12 (NLT) 11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. 12 As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.
    • 2 Timothy 2:15 (MKJV) Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
  • Everyone gets the same opportunity.
    • 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV) We also thank God continually because, when you received the Word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it, not as the word of men, but actually as it is, the Word of God, which is at work in you who believe.

  • The Holy Bible and S.O.A.P. – Pastor Wayne Cordeiro
    • Scripture: Read meditatively and thoughtfully through a portion of Scripture. Pick a verse or two that stood out to you and write it in your journal.
    • Observation: Write some observations about the verse(s) or passage. What is this passage or verse saying? About God? About people? How is Christ revealed in this?
    • Application: Write a few sentences on how this passage applies to your life. Is there truth about God that you are to believe? A promise to receive? Is the Holy Spirit convicting you of something you need to do or stop doing in light of God’s truth? What specific principles are you challenged to practice based on Scripture, prayer, and reflection? Be doers of the word and not merely hearers.
      • James 1:22 (ESV) 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
      • James 1:22 (NLT) 22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
    • Prayer: Write out a prayer to God in response to this Scripture. This is a way to turn God’s Word to you back to Him. Be honest and express your heart to Him. God always listens and He delights in your prayers.
      • Psalm 34:15 (ESV) 15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.
      • Proverbs 15:8 (ESV) 8 The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but he delights in the prayers of the upright.
      • Luke 4:4 (NKJV) 4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”
