Generational Blessing aka Bless ‘em Lord
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 ESV
My Story of Generational Blessing:
One generation shall praise Your works to another And shall declare Your mighty acts. Psalms 145:4 NKJV
Generational blessing is all about God’s faithfulness.
Review:
Bless: flourish, thrive, abundance, and multiplication
Blessing: a favor or gift bestowed by God, thereby bringing happiness. The invoking of
God’s favor upon a person.
What is a Generational Blessing?
A God blessing or favor that extends beyond an individual and encompasses future generations of a family or lineage.

Abraham: First-generation blessing holder
Generational blessings and all blessings begin with our choice to hear God and obey. We are not required to understand or feel good about it. Choices lead and feelings follow.
1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation;I will bless you And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him,…Genesis 12:1-4 ESV
5Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. 7 Then He said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.” 8 And he said, “Lord God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”Genesis 15: 5 – 8 ESV
…Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15 Now as for you, you shall [d]go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation, they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” Genesis 15: 13-16 ESV
With generational blessings, we may see the beginning, or our place in the blessing, but we don’t get to see the end.
Problem: What I manipulate, I have to maintain.
God’s Blessing will stretch us and require our surrender.
Isaac: Second-generation blessing holder.
2 And the Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you, for to you and to your offspring I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. 4 I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, 5 because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” Genesis 26: 2-5 ESV
Isaac wanted to honor the original blessing and did just as his father did.
Jacob: Third-Generation blessing holder
12 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder[b] set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it[c] and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. 14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Genesis 28:12-15 ESV
Jacobs Vow:
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, 21 so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.” Genesis 28:20-22 ESV
Every generation has to make their relationship with God their own or they are living in hearsay.
God’s truth will always expose the unconverted places in our hearts.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11: 28-30 MSG
