SUMMER @ DC: THE GREAT COMMISSION
MAKE DISCIPLES

WHAT ARE WE PERSONALLY DOING ABOUT IT?

Top American Stressors:

  1. Economic pressure and the cost of living
  2. Mental health/social isolation
  3. Global instability/War Fatigue/threat of personal violence
  4. AI and job displacement (fear of technology)

THE CHALLENGE IS THE “HOW”?

Matt 28:16-20   16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” NIV

HOW ARE WE TO BE PERSONALLY AND EFFECTIVELY ENGAGED?

HOW DO I FULFILL MY RESPONSIBILITY TO THE GREAT COMMISSION?

THE GREAT COMMISSION’S LAUNCHING PAD IS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE “HAVE NOTS”.

“People are not changed by insights, but in encountering God in the context of relationship.”

From: Helping people feel better through therapy

To: Helping people become more like Christlike through relational discipleship

Luke 14:12-14   12 Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a dinner,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will repay you by inviting you back.  13 Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.  14 Then at the resurrection of the godly, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.” NLT

We naturally navigate towards what feels comfortable.

Matt 9:35-38  35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentifubut the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” NIV

SOUL TATTOO …A DISCIPLE’S PRAYER

God, please give me:

Eyes that see

Heart that feels

Knees that bend

God that sends
