Lessons on Parenting

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Remember: The goal is not happy children but mature adults.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”Maya Angelou

Soul Tattoo: Legacy parenting leads by loving, listening, and lingering.

1.) Lead from Faith not Fear.

Isaiah 43:5 (NKJV) Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west;

“Fear smothers but faith covers.”

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

2.) Love Your Spouse.

Ephesians 5:25 (NIV) “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

Proverbs 18:22 (NIV) “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.”

“The best way to raise positive children in a negative world is to have positive parents who love each other and show it.” – Zig Ziglar

3.) Listen More.

One of the best gifts we can give our children is quiet listening, fully hearing their hearts and offering our understanding BEFORE we offer counsel.

“The first duty of love is to listen.” – Paul Tillich

James 1:19 (NIV) “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

Proverbs 18:13 (NIV) “To answer before listening— that is folly and shame.”

4.) Lean In

“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.”**Barbara Johnson

Psalm 90:12 (NIV) “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV) “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.” – Lady Bird Johnson

Conclusion:

Let us commit, with God’s grace, to be beacons of light for our children, so that when they look back, they see not only lessons on parenting but a legacy of faith, hope, and love.
