The One
“Breakfast On the Beach”

Soul Tattoo: It is not enough to have compassion for our one;  we must add action for compassion to have its work.

Compassion for my one without action is pity

35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:35-38

33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”  Luke 10:33-37

Four Things The Lord Showed Me  About Moving in  Compassion + Action

  1. My child’s failures were not mine.
  2. Prayer is an offensive weapon.
  3. Compassion leads to action.
  4. It takes time to turn a big ship around.

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.” John 21:15-19

Four Observations of Jesus Focusing On His One

  1. Jesus never focused on Peter’s denial.
  2. Jesus allowed Peter to confess the truth from his own mouth.
  3. Jesus gently reminds Peter who he had been all along.
  4. Jesus gives Peter his original call a new.

How Can I Focus on Compassion With Action for My One

  1. Ask the Lord who needs to go to breakfast.
  2. Come to meet with no agenda but to love them.
  3. Be yourself.
  4. Honest relationships lead to honest questions waiting for honest answers.
  5. Remember, It takes time to turn a big ship around.
