THE BEATITUDES

Blessed are the Merciful…

Matthew 5:1-6 (ESV) 1Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Matthew 5:7 (NKJV) Blessed are the merciful, For, they shall obtain mercy.

Genesis 1:11 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.

Galatians 6:7-8 (NKJV) 7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

The law of the seed.

  • What you sow.
  • More than you sow.
  • Later than you sow.

Why Seed Mercy?

1.) Because God has shown you mercy.

Ephesians 2:4-5 (NKJV) 4But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

2.) Because God commands you to be merciful.

Micah 6:8 (NKJV) He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

3.) Because you’re going to need more mercy in the future.

James 2:13 (NKJV) For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

4.) Because showing mercy releases God’s blessing.

Matthew 5:7 (NKJV) Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

How to Seed Mercy?

1.) Mercy means being patient with people’s quirks.

James 3:17 (NKJV) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

2.) Mercy means helping anyone around you who is hurting.

Proverbs 3:27 (NLT) Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

Romans 12:8c (NKJV) he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

3.) Mercy means giving people a second chance.

Ephesians 4:32 (NKJV) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

“I tend to judge myself by my intentions and others by their actions.” ET

4.) Mercy means doing good to those who hurt you.

Luke 6:35-36 (NKJV) 35But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

5.) Mercy means being kind to those who offend you.

Jude 1:22-23 (NKJV) 22And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

6.) Mercy means building bridges of love to the unpopular.

Matthew 9:13 (NKJV) But go and learn what this means: ‘I DESIRE MERCY AND NOT SACRIFICE.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.

7.) Mercy means valuing relationships over rules.

Romans 13:10 (NKJV) Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.
