Genesis 12:1-4 (ESV) 1Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

  1. Trust: (The foundation of a healthy relationship)
    • Trusting God builds the bridge to intimacy with Him.
    • Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
    • Proverbs 3:5-6 (MSG) 5Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. 6Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
  2. Love: (The language of relationship)
    • Love for God is shown in obedience to Him.
    • John 14:15 (ESV) 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
    • John 14:21 (ESV) 21 “…Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
  3. Knowing God: (The key to intimacy)
    • You can’t trust or love someone you don’t truly know.
    • John 10:27 (NIV) 27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
  4. Trustworthiness: (God’s proven track record)
    • When life shakes us, God’s faithfulness steadies us.
    • Psalm 100:5 (ESV) For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
  5. Walking daily with God: (A lifestyle of relationship)
    • Healthy relationships grow through daily connection.
    • Micah 6:8 (NLT) 8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Three Healthy Relationship Thoughts:

  1. Your relationship with God is personal, but it’s not private.
    • Luke 9:26 (ESV) 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
  2. A healthy relationship with God takes time, but every step counts.
    • Philippians 1:6 (NIV) 6Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
  3. God desires to be close to you more than you desire to be close to Him.
    • James 4:8 (ESV) Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
    • Psalm 73:28 (NLT) 28 But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.

Healthy Relationship with God Prayer:

“Lord, thank You for calling me into a loving, trusting, and intimate relationship with You. Help me to trust You fully, love You deeply, and walk with You daily. Strengthen me in my journey and remind me of Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
