DC Downtown exists to help meet the needs of people in our community by fighting hunger through the efficient collection and distribution of wholesome foods.

The Food Journey

Because everyone counts, we relentlessly love and serve like Jesus.

1. Truck Delivery
1. Truck Delivery

We receive a semi truck from multiple ministries and food distributors throughout the southeastern United States. While the food is always free, we pay $2,100 for the freight. We receive on average 30 pallets of food with each semi truck load.

2. DC Downtown Warehouse

When the food reaches our warehouse, it is unloaded, sorted, stocked on shelves, and divided up for “Partner Pallets.”

3. Food Distribution
3. Food Distribution

Our food ministry is open to the public twice a week. Individuals and families have the option to get 2 pre-packaged bags or food for free or partner with us for a suggested donation of $5 for one bag or $10 for 2 bags. By partnering with the ministry, they offset the cost of freight, and they can select what goes in their bag by shopping in our food room. Either way is a win-win situation for everyone!

4. Food Ministry by the Numbers
4. Food Ministry by the Numbers

Since we started our partnership with Operation Blessing, we have brought over one million pounds of food to our region. Since the beginning of 2023 (January – July), we have served 21 counties, with a total of 14,064 people (including 4,393 under the age of 18 — 8,233 between 19-64 — and 1,438 over the age of 65). We currently partner with 12 other ministries each month. We also distribute food into our surrounding communities through other outreach programs. Through our Orientation Program, we have seen many salvations as our demographic outreach area is almost 50% unchurched people.

You may be wondering where do we go from here? There are several ways you can help us on our food journey.

Volunteer
Our ministry runs on volunteers and it takes a minimum of 20 volunteers each night to help things run smoothly. That’s 40 volunteers a week! If you have a couple of hours you would like to donate, we would love to have you! Call our church office at (912)284-9066 and we can give you the details you need.

Give
We are able to do what we do because of generous donors like you. We are a non-profit, so every dollar donated goes back into feeding the hungry in our region. You can give a one-time or recurring monthly gift to our food ministry through our online giving system HERE.

Pray
Everyone could use more prayer and our ministry is no different. Pray for those who are in need and feel lost and hopeless, as we provide food for this region and present them with The Hope of the World.
